Buying at auction

Buying at auction can be easy and successful, especially when you follow these simple, helpful suggestions. If you have any questions, please call 1-800-544-5186 and one of our auction professionals will be glad to help you.

  1. Call or Email Us — Before you schedule you own auction or plan to attend one of the many you'll find listed on this website, call us at 1-800-544-5186 or email us at mrogers641@mac.com with any questions. We'll make sure you have all the information you need.
  2. Get All the Information Available — When you're interested in a specific property, make a concerted effort to find out as much as you can about it. We'll be happy to assist you with your search. In fact, our listings of recent and current auctions are the best place to start.
  3. Make Your Own Inspection — It's always a good idea to personally inspect the property you'll be bidding on. Take advantage of an "Open House" or any other opportunity to get a first-hand look at the property. At auction, you will be buying on an "as is" basis, so get to know any faults the property may have.
  4. Get Your Financing In Order — Before you make a bid on any property, take the time to pre-qualified yourself with a reputable lender. Make sure you thoroughly understand payments, terms, and interest rates. You'll be more confident and you'll bid with more authority.
  5. Make a Dry Run — It helps to know just how an auction works. Familiarize yourself with the process by attending one of our auctions. Observe the bidding and the way we interact with buyers and sellers. Knowing what to expect will make buying at auction more enjoyable and efficient for you. If you have any questions, give us a call and we'll help you.
  6. Plan Your Bid Limit — After you've inspected the property and examined all of the paperwork, take some time to figure out your bidding strategy. What will be your opening bid? What is the highest price you are willing to pay? Auctions are contests. Plan to compete for what you want.
  7. Get There Early — Plan to arrive at the auction at least an hour before the bidding is scheduled to start. This will give you time to get registered and receive your bid packet and other essential information. You'll also have time to talk to auction officials regarding any questions or concerns you might have.
  8. Bring Your Funds — If you are the winning bidder, you will be required to pay your deposit immediately. All deposits must be in the form of certified check or cash. For more information on deposit requirements and amounts at specific auctions, call a Marty Rogers Auctioneers representative at 1-800-544-5186.
